Student Discounts : Complete List

So you all LOVED the student discounts post (I am talking record numbers!) So I did more research and have complied all of the discounts that I could find. Be sure to read through though because not all of them are in the colorful lists, some are explained in just the text. Be sure to take advantage of these discounts & share with your friends!

Updated retail:

All of the above discounts are subject to the location and may be slightly different than what is listed so be sure to ask. Also, lots of locally owned restaurants offer discounts so always ask!

Insurance companies like Geico, Esurance, State Farm, Travelers, Farmers Insurance and All-state also offer discounts for students.

AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile discounts average 6-18%

AMC Theaters offer students a discount on movie tickets on Thursdays.

American Airlines also offers students a discount on travel, call to find out more details.

I also found that General Motors offers discounts on Chevy, Buick and GMC Cars for students but this is probably subject to the dealer.

I use Ebates when shopping online. They give you cash back for what you spend. It is really easy, sign up here, then all you do is click the link to the store you want from Ebates and earn a percentage back on what you spend. Thus far I have received two checks with my cash back! You also get a $10 gift card when you sign up (yes it really works, I used mine at Target.)

I have also heard of studentrate.com but have not personally tried it.

I have done my best to check and double check that these discounts work, if for some reason you find one that does not work, or know of one I did not post, please comment and I will update this post!

Skin Care

Let’s talk about skin care. I did the review on the Clarisonic cleanser the other day but wanted to go beyond just cleansing, and give some tips on cleansing your skin without the Clarisonic.

First things first, you need a good cleanser. Cleansers are there to wash the day or night away. I think using a medicated cleanser is not worth it because there is not enough time for the medication to soak into your skin. Instead use a mild cleanser. There are three I recommend:

For a less expensive cleanser that still gets the job done try Cetaphil. I like this cleanser because it is silky and does not over dry my skin. It is basic and sometimes basic is better.

The next two cleansers are from the same maker just slightly different formulas. Both of them are great, it really depends on your personal preference and skin.

This is the Kiehl’s cleanser for oily skin:

This is the Kiehl’s for all skin types:

I use the Oil free cleanser the most and since starting to use it a year ago I have noticed that my skin is much more balanced and less shiny (this accompanied with the Clarisonic is amazing!) I use the cleanser for all skin types when I decide to steal it from my mom, it feels very similar and I do not notice that my skin is oiler or anything so I think it is a personal preference.

Okay now how to cleanse, if you are not using the clarisonic you need to be as gentle as possible with your skin. You don’t want to be rough with it or stretch and grab it when it doesn’t need to be. Wet your face then lather the cleanser in your hands and gently slide it over your skin. You do not want to irritate your skin because that will only cause breakouts an redness. Be gentle!! Rinse off your face with warm water.

After all that cleansing you need a really good moisturizer to keep your skin healthy and glowing. I have two, one for the hot months and one for the chilly, dry months. My Spring & Summer moisturizer this year is the No Zit Sherlock

I love this for the hot months, it absorbs into my skin and gives me just the right amount of moisture so I don’t get shiny. It also has a little acne medication to keep break outs at bay.

My winter moisturizer is the Clarins Early Wrinkle Correction. Some of you may laugh and say that you don’t need an anti wrinkle cream this early, but I think starting early is the best thing you can do for your skin. I want my skin to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible and the earlier you start taking care of your skin properly the better!

Again when applying your moisturizer be gentle, I have been told to gently slather it on your skin and pat it in, this pushes the product into your pores so your skin can absorb the product and allow it to work. This has worked for me and since beginning all of these methods my skin has been looking the best it ever has!

What are your tips for skin care?

Made in the USA

With the Olympics right around the corner and the recent upset about the uniforms, it seemed only fitting to share some American Made picks! It really is difficult to find clothes and accessories that are made in America, while I don’t shun companies that do not make their products in America, I do appreciate (and am sometimes more likely to purchase) an American made product. Here are some picks for the Olympics:

Belt | Sandals | Flats | Bracelet | Bag

There are other companies that make their products in the USA, you just have to keep your eye out and check the labels.

What are your favorite American made products?

Back to College : Supplies

For the third installment of back to college I have picked one of my favorites, supplies! I can remember being in elementary school and the day I got my school supplies list I would beg my mom to take us (my brother and I) shopping, it was one of my favorite things (okay, that sounds really nerdy, but it is so true.) This may or may not have continued through middle school, and potentially a little in high school. Anyways, here are the supplies that come with me to every class, every day.

Monogram Notebook : I came across these great notebooks that you can monogram (you can also have the pages be an agenda if you wish instead of a lined paper, graph paper, or blank.) I use notebooks all of the time. Depending on the class I take handwritten notes or type them. Either way notebooks are essential to my life and they are always in my school bag, purse, car and anything else I can put them in. They are one thing I could not live without in college.

Pencils : I really use pens more than I use pencils, but most of the tests in college use scantrons (fill in the bubble, SAT style.) Therefore, I now have more pencils than pens because for each test I require myself to have a three pencil minimum (unnecessary, but it makes me feel better.) Besides, these pencils are the cutest I’ve ever found!

Large Longchamp Tote : I have been using a lonchamp for a “backpack” for years now and they can hold so much more than you’d expect. They can even hold my heavy biology and chemistry books without me feeling as though the bag will break. I usually have an additional smaller bag for all of the little things so they are not floating around at the bottom. It does have a pocket  towards the top that perfectly fits pens and pencils.

Lilly Pulitzer Calculator : Okay, so this may not be the most practical calculator if you are taking any course that requires more than simple math, but it is easily the cutest calculator I have ever seen. Anyways, depending on your major you will need a good calculator, and yes, they do make pink graphing calculators (I put a monogram sticker on mine!)

Binder Clips : These are some of my best friends, I use then to organize handouts, keep my place in my agenda, keep papers and their drafts together and anything else a binder clip can be used for, they are something everyone should have with them.

Highlighters : The first thing I do when I get a syllabus is take my highlighters out. I usually come up with a color coded system to mark due dates for papers, tests, days without class (woohoo), and anything else important that I need to remember. They are also great to mark things that you write down in class that are of extra importance.

Sticky Notes : I use sticky notes mostly as reminders to myself but also to stick into my notebook and agenda when I need to add something in. I also stick them on the inside of my laptop with everything from due dates to blog post ideas and anything else I might forget.

Agenda : I would not be able to function without my agenda. This is pretty self explanatory of why I use one and why it is so important in college. I know many people use their phones now for an agenda, but there is something about having it written down, that for me, will never be replaced.

USB : You never know when you are going to need to quickly transfer a file from one computer to the next and when internet is down, this comes in handy!

Index Cards : I still use flash cards to study so I try and have theses with me all the time. If you are like me, you have a need to get to class early and with that spare time, making note cards or running through them to study is a great way to maximize time.

In addition to what I have mentioned above I also carry (always or sometimes) my laptop, iPad, hair ties, hair clips, chapstick, tissues, hand cream, and bandaids.

Do you have any essentials you carry in your school bag, if so please share!

Check out the back to college bedding post, and storage post too!

new arrivals from kate spade

Kate Spade has some great new arrivals that are perfect to help you head into fall. I have put together a few of my favorites from the new arrivals:

Colors Bracelet : I love this bracelet because it would be a great pop of color to any fall outfit (you can even make it work in spring and summer!) It is bold enough to be your statement piece and as Kate Spade always says, “live colorfully”.

Wrap Watch: As you know, I have been obsessing over Kate Spade watches- I am literally so happy that they began a line of watches! Wrap watches and bracelets are such a trend right now so if you are thinking of jumping on the bandwagon, this is the way to do it! It is simple enough to be worn everyday but you still get a little hint of that Kate Sade fun.

Kimmy Wedge : This is currently on the top of my “must have” list. It is a complete classic. I can see Audrey Hepburn wearing these and because of that my feet absolutely crave them! This wedge is one of those shoes that you see and know is an instant classic.

Art Noir Karen Bag : I own a Kate Spade bag that is the same shape but leather and love it. However, the pattern on this bag is a ton of fun. It would be a good everyday bag if you are in the market for a new one for fall.

Skinny Mini Bow Ring : I love bows. The ring just looked so dainty to me and would be adorable with any outfit. It even has the matching earrings!

West Chelsea Cindy Wallet : Large wallets are great because they can double as a clutch. Because of that, I like having one that is more fun so when I do let it lead a double life, no one can tell the difference. How adorable would this look with a little black dress, and the bow ring & earrings (and maybe the wedges…)!

Eddy Flats : These flats are right up their with the wedges, I must have a soft spot for the capped  toe look right now because every time I see it I want to melt. These flats would be able to take you right into the holiday season.

Student Discounts

Over the past couple of weeks I have been compiling a list of all of the stores that I shop, might shop, or think my readers might shop that have student discounts. I know I love finding stores that offer students a deal on their merchandise, and I sadly forget to ask or use my discount so I am hoping that this list helps me and you! I personally am going to print it out and keep it in my wallet so that when I go to pay I am reminded to flash my student ID or ask if they offer one.

Student Discounts Post

These discounts are mostly in-store and you need your student ID with you in order to get the discount (some stores will allow you to use your student email address.)

Apple also offers special deals for students around the back to school months and 8% off in stores. If you are looking for software at a great price for students check out Academic Superstore.

Hopefully this helps all of you students save some pretty pennies!

UPDATE 7/30/12 : Here are even more great student discounts!

Review : Accessory Scout

About a month ago I teamed up with Accessory Scout to bring you all an awesome giveaway of a lucite link necklace! Today I am here to review a bracelet that they sent me. The bracelet will go live for sale Tonight at 8:00 pm CST. In order to purchase go to their page and comment “sold” with your paypal email address and you will receive an invoice for your product later that night.

So back to the bracelet- it comes in black, red, tan and white and has gold hardware. I have been branching out to wear more statement pieces and this is totally one of them. It would be the perfect addition to a girls night out or to give a simple shift dress a fun and bold accent. I paired it with my navy Lilly Pulitzer Cassie Slub dress and a pair of Jack Rogers.

Accessory Scout paired it with a bright pair of shorts and a simple oxford and patterned scarf:

I love both ways of styling it and it is a very versatile piece. It has a snap closure with two sets of snaps so you can adjust the length slightly. For a snug fit I wear it on the second set of snaps.

The bracelet is going to become a new staple piece for me at college when I head out for a fun night with friends!

Don’t forget, the bracelet is for sale TONIGHT! Do not miss out on it because you will be sad if you do! Accessory Scout will also have a ton more great pieces so be sure to stop by! Happy Shopping!

Back to College : Storage Solutions

Today is for the second installment for the Back to College segment and it is all about storage! After going through the first year I figured out what I did and didn’t use when it came to storage. I used plastic drawers a ton and could have used a second set of them (and more room!) I also really liked storage bins because they were so versatile and you can fill them to the brim and still have all of your things in one place. I put together a few of the storage solutions that I think would work for a college dorm (or apartment.)

Black Drawers | Clear Drawers | Lilly Pulitzer Boxes

Laundry Bag | Rugby Stripe Bin

Here are a few baskets I picked up from Home Goods a few weeks ago to go into my dorm room:

These baskets will (hopefully) be great for keeping me organized and of course they are super cute! If you are handy with a sewing machine you could easily purchase some cheap baskets and a fun fabric and make your own inserts to give them some personality.

Check out the back to college bedding post here.
