Guest Post : Chicago Prepster

Today I will be leaving you all in the very capable hands of Carly from Chicago Prepster. Be sure to check out my guest post on her blog today!

Hello Subtly Fabulous Readers! Carly from Chicago Prepster here to share with you the five components you’ll need for your daily stack of arm candy!
1. A watch
In my opinion, a watch is a necessity in a daily stack. I’m constantly checking the time while in the big city & it adds a bit of professionalism to any ensemble. I absolutely love my rose gold Stella watch from Fossil. It has just the right amount of shimmer and compliments any gold or silver pieces. Plus, it looks great with any outfit – casual or dressy!
2. Something monogrammed
Make your stack unique from other’s with your monogram or initials. I recommend this Sterling Silver Nautical Monogram bracelet from Swell Caroline. I love the rope detailing on the edge!
3. Something with pearls
Pearls add a classic look to any daily stack. I love pearls (not only because they’re my birthstone)  but because they’re a symbol of peace and virtue. I love this cluster pearl Rachelle Bracelet, also from Swell Caroline. Wear it alone or with your daily stack!
4. Something colorful
Mix in a little color to your daily stack metals. I love this Aqua Stripe Bracelet from Darling Design. Rose gold and aqua are one of my favorite combinations! It also comes in pink & green!
5. Something from your favorite designer
It’s okay to splurge on this one! Pick your favorite high-end designer and wear their logo on your wrist as a sign of your affinity! I love the look of this patterned Double Warp Logo Stud Bracelet from Troy Burch. Also comes in hedgehog print (too cute)!
Hope this post has given you some inspiration for your daily stack! Thanks to Samantha for hosting my guest post!

Clarisonic Review

Almost two months ago I purchased and began using the Clarisonic cleansing system. I have come to adore it and have really been able to see a difference in my skin since I began. I did not try the cleanser it came with, I use two different cleansers with it, my favorite being Kiehl’s Oil Free Cleanser.

I use it once or twice a day and have not had any problems with it drying my skin out. My skin has been much softer and seems to be a bit brighter than it usually is. My skin has defiantly been clearer and although I do still get the occasional breakout, they have lessened significantly. I typically have oily skin, especially in the Summer and for the first time I have not had that problem, no longer do I have shiny skin 24/7.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to really cleanse their skin better than it ever has been. I feel as though I get a mini facial each time I use this. I really love this product and cannot say enough good things about it. Mine is the Mia 2 in coral (pictured above and linked). It is said to be the “travel size” but I use it everyday and think it is perfect. Let me know if you have any specific questions about it and I will be happy to answer!

Back To College : Bedding

I am going to begin a segment of back to college (or heading to your first year of college), I will post about everything you need for heading to college this Fall. For the first one, I am starting with one of the largest things there is, bedding. Finding a good bedding is key- your bed is not just where you sleep, it becomes a vital part of your life. You sleep, study, read, relax, even eat in bed and everything in between. You want your bedding to be a place you enjoy and are comfortable. There are so many options but it is tough to find the right one.

I will share some great places to find bedding of all types and price ranges to find the best one for you.

First up is Decor 2 Ur Door. They offer “kits” if you will with everything matching in your favorite colors and patterns. It is a great one stop shop and you don’t need to worry about matching colors and patterns because they have done the work for you. Here is one of my favorites:

Here is a close up of the pillows:

They have every color scheme you could want so don’t fret if hot pink and lime green are not for you. In addition to these pre-made bedding kits, you can also design your own. Picking your own patterns, colors, pillows etc. This is a ton of fun for someone who really wants their personality to shine through. If you are in sorority, they have you covered for that too.

My next pick is for the Lilly Lovers (and I know there are a ton of us out there!)

Garnet Hill offers duvet covers in your favorite Lilly Pulitzer prints. Here are three of the ones offered for a twin size:

They also carry the matching shams and Lilly sheets to complete your bed. Garnet Hill also offers other great bedding and accessories for your dorm, some which will be featured in later segments of the series.

For a less expensive route I would try Target for bedding, here are two that I found were cute and affordable. Also, Home Goods and Bed, Bath and Beyond are other great options, but go EARLY!

My final suggestion for buying bedding is PB Teen, they have fun bedding and it is sort of the in-between price range of the above suggestions. Here is one of the beddings I liked:

As for the sheets, we purchased mine from a sale on Rue La La last year, they were flannel and I LOVED them! We also picked up another set that were cotton from Home Goods or TJ Maxx. Remember, the biggest thing is that you are comfortable and you like it because you end up spending a lot of time in it and seeing it more than you might imagine.

Also, shop as early as you can and set a budget out right from the beginning. It takes a lot of unneeded stress out and lets you have a more enjoyable experience, because let’s face it, you should have a little bit of fun with it!

St. Louis Recap

As many of you know, I went to St. Louis for the week to visit Patrick . It was a ton of fun even through the crazy heat (over 100 degrees every day!) Here are a few pictures to recap the week I was there and some of the fun things we did.

One of my favorite things we did when I was visiting was go to Grants Farm. When you arrive you are whisked away on a long cart and taken around the entire farm to see all of the exotic animals they have on the farm. After this you are dropped off to explore more animals, interact with them etc. We decided to feed the little goats.

They nearly attack you when they see the bottle in your hand but are completely harmless. Although one of them tried to nibble on my skirt!

Patrick handled the attacking goats with ease…

The parrots colors were too beautiful not to snap a picture

They had two gorgeous bald eagles that had sustained injuries and made them no longer able to fly and survive in the wild.

Of course we had to visit the…

They are such loving and beautiful animals. I could have stayed there for hours!

This one was a youngster and not yet full-size (although still pretty big)

Jake was the most social and a big fan of having is nose scratched. Such a good boy!

So when I wasn’t drooling over the clydesdales we also visited the arch of course. We took a few pictures in front but the lighting was off. Here is one shot I did like:

On a previous trip to St. Louis, Patrick and I went up in it. It is certainly nerve-racking looking down and seeing nothing under you- Eek!

The trip was filled with other fun adventures and trips, including a trip to crown candy where we had some of the best milkshakes and malts on this planet!

DIY : Lilly Pulitzer Thumb Tacks

I found this adorable Lilly DIY project on, you guessed it- Pinterest! It was super easy and they turned out perfect! Now all I need is a Lilly board to pin them on.

The first step is get all of your supplies together. You will need:

Clear Gems

Scissors

Pencil

Mod Podge & new paint brush

Thumb Tacks

Hot glue gun

Lilly Patterns or any other patterns you would like to use

These are all great to use for patterns (magazines work best I think)

Step-two:

Find the pattern you would like to use and place your gem on it. Trace it and use your scissors to carefully cut it out. Check to see if it fits the gem and trim if need be.

Step-three:

Paint a thin coat of mod podge on the flat side of the gem. Then place the cut out pattern down. Press down and let dry. Then paint a thin coat over the back of the gem and cut out.

Gem with mod podge and the cut out

Step-four:

Once the mod podge is all dry, place a small dot of glue (from the hot glue gun) on the back and attach the thumb tack.

How cute are they?!

p.s. sometimes there is a little glue or mod podge on the front from handling, use your nail to scrape it off.

This was a super easy DIY project and took little time to prepare and do. They would make a great little gift to put into a basket for your little (future little, you will get them and you will love Lilly.)

If you haven’t heard, Lilly Pulitzer launched more of their sorority prints and new products for all of the sorority prints! I was so excited when I heard about this so I had to share it with you all to make sure everyone knew!

Here is the whole collection of the Alpha Phi print (products available for all of the Lilly sorority prints):

Most of these are currently available for pre-order, but I have a feeling they will sell-out quickly so if I were you, I would get my orders in sooner rather than later.
